I've enjoyed doing Steampunk since we really got into it after Teslacon last November. It's given me an excuse to use my Victorian brain and I've done several builds I've really enjoyed. I'm not going to lie, being able to turn out a dress in only 20-30 hours has definitely increased the enjoyment level since a faire dress takes me around 100 hours.
Anyway, I admit it, my Steampunk is in reality pretty straight Victorian (primarily 1885-1888) with period fabrics and with the added use of a few blends and man made fabrics when it gives the right look. Then the "Steampunk" embellishment of a brooch, watch or something simple at best. For World Steam Expo in May this is no exception--in fact probably even more so since one of the gowns is entirely made of two suiting wools and right out of a fashion plate. The other is velvet and taffeta modeled after a ballgown in the Kyoto book (same types of fabrics, similar colors) with a huge trane. I might submit in-progress shots, but since several of my friends on here are also going to be at WSE, I do sort of want both to be surprises. If I do my job right, Lady Buckingham will have two sophisticated looking additions to her wardobe.
So, since there is very little (okay, zero) Punk in my Steampunk, what the heck should I call what I do? Maybe I'm showing my age but when I hear "Punk" I think the Sex Pistols and the Clash...and even then they pre-dated me by a couple of years.
The best thing I've come up with yet is SteamGlam, but I know it isn't very good.
Suggestions?
