Elizabeth's Gown by ladyrose04 Elizabeth's Gown by ladyrose04
Here is the super secret project I was working on this spring. This is the first long-distance gown commission I've done and will probably be the last full gown for a while. I think the final product turned out pretty well though all things considered. Elizabeth's playtron character is a Duchess of Norfolk, so I tried my best to make it courtly, but not break the budget.

The body of the gown itself is green cotton velveteen. It is a four panel overskirt guarded in black cotton velvet trimmed with four trims stacked together. The bodice is French cut and bordered with those same four trims. It has soft shoulder rolls with puffs of black velveteen. It also has green velveteen Spanish oversleeves. The forepart and undersleeves are are blue damask cotton-poly blend guarded with navy velvet. They are also embellished with topaz bicones, filigrees, gold o's, and champagne pearls.

There is a hat and caul that also goes with the dress, but it isn't pictured. I also made her a petticoat which of course you cannot see. I am not too thrilled with the wrinkling you can see in the picture, but most of that has to do with the belt she wears under her dress to hold her purse and such.

All in all I think it turned out nicely.

Awesome sewing as always. I love how middle-class-ish this gown looks. :)

Yeah, it does sort of photograph middle class-ish. Her character is actually a high ranking peer. Due to fight cast commitments by most of the court they don't use much beading on their clothes (which makes all the sense in the world to me) so by comparison this is pretty blinged out. I wish I could have gotten a shot in full sunlight. The forepart really sparkles in the sun.

For long distance, that's awesome. Considering all the fitting I do with just my own work, I can't imagine how much stress this caused you. I really like the color combination, and how you've used the different trims.

We were only able to do two fittings, I would have preferred three, but I ran out of time. It's very different than her last dress and that was part of the hope. Thanks.
